Learn the basic functions and uses of the Avenza mapping app while gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative, in-person workshop. Avenza is a free, accessible mapping app for anyone - landowners, professionals, and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Join Hannah Dallas, S. Windsor County Forester, Kelly Beerman, Farm & Wilderness Conservation Director, and Kate Forrer, Vermont Woodlands Association, for a 4-hour field workshop located at Farm & Wilderness in Plymouth, VT.
We will review how to access the app, upload maps, what functions & uses it provides for the user, and set up small-group field sessions for participants to practice using the variety of tools the Avenza has to offer. Hannah, Kelly, and Kate will share their experiences and tips for using the app and guide participants in the small-group field sessions. All experience levels are welcome, this event is meant to be a collaborative learning experience for everyone!
What to Bring: In order to participate fully in the workshop, participants should have either an Apple (iOS 13 or higher) iPhone or iPad device OR an Android 8 or higher device. Farm & Wilderness Conservation has limited iPads available to borrow for the workshop. Please indicate the need to borrow an iPad in the event registration.
Pre-Workshop Zoom: In addition to the in-person workshop, participants will also have the option to attend a pre-workshop zoom on Thursday October 5th at 7pm-8pm. The zoom event will cover how to download the app and upload maps prior to meeting for the workshop. Attending the live zoom is not a requirement to participate in the in-person workshop, but it is encouraged. Details and link to the zoom will be provided to all registered participants. The zoom will be recorded and folks who register after the zoom will automatically receive the recording link to watch prior to attending the workshop.
