WHAT WE DO
Farm & Wilderness Conservation is dedicated to preserving and promoting the wilderness character and serene ambiance of Woodward Reservoir and Lake Ninevah, spanning over 5,000 acres, and the expansive surrounding lands in Mount Holly and Plymouth, Vermont.
The Foundation preserves and protects these lands for low-impact recreation, outdoor education, and wildlife habitat. We maintain a critical wildlife corridor that connects the northern and southern branches of the Green Mountain National Forest. We promote sustainable recreation, provide environmental education opportunities, and safeguard these lands for future generations.
Farm & Wilderness Conservation landholdings are positioned within a string of conserved properties, both publicly and privately held, that form a critical wildlife connectivity corridor between the southern and northern portions of the Green Mountain National Forest. In pursuit of its mission, the Foundation has:
- Expanded the protected acreage by acquiring additional land and conservation easements through purchase or donation.
- Enrolled a significant portion of its lands in the U.S. Forest Legacy program, ensuring the conservation and public accessibility and contributing to the Green Mountain Bear Corridor.
- Safeguard Lake Ninevah and Woodward Reservoir from aquatic nuisances through effective prevention programs in partnership with the Vermont Dept. of Environmental Protection.
- Established and executed an ongoing strategy to effectively manage and control the growth of invasive plants on our land.
- Delivered comprehensive education programs for children and adults which build connection, understanding, and belonging with the natural world and each other.
- Actively encouraged recreational activities that align with the preservation of the natural landscape.
- Implemented and monitored restrictive covenants to ensure the stability of land use.
Our work focuses on conservation, education, and recreation.
