Contracted boat access greeters needed for the Woodward Reservoir and Lake Ninevah Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Programs to provide courtesy boat checks and collect important data about boater use and visitation. This program is in partnership with the State of Vermont, Towns of Plymouth & Mount Holly, and Farm & Wilderness Conservation supported by a grant and matching funding & coordination from Farm & Wilderness Conservation Department.
Locations:
Woodward Reservoir Public Boat Access – Plymouth, VT
Lake Ninevah – Mount Holly, VT
- $15/Hour
- Temporary Contracted Work Season: May-October
- Greeters can set their shifts and number of hours at the beginning of the season – weekend days required.
Description of Work:
- Approaching and interacting with boaters
- Inspecting watercraft
- Identifying and handling suspicious specimens
- Collecting and reporting data
- Distributing educational material on aquatic invasive species
Training Provided:
- Aquatic invasive species biology, threats to Vermont, and the importance of spread prevention
- Access area rules and regulations, invasive species laws
- Tips on delivering invasive species messages and interacting with the public
- How to inspect watercraft and data collection methods

Required Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age
- Ability to work independently at the boat access for a minimum of 4-hour shifts
- Ability to use smartphone or tablet apps to collect survey data (training provided)
- Comfortable speaking with the general public and asking survey questions
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):
- Experience with aquatic invasive species
- Previous work experience working with the general public
- Experience with boating as a recreational activity
- Experience, knowledge, coursework or an interest in a career in a natural resource or education field (e.g., environmental sciences, environmental education, interpretation, education, natural resource policy, natural resource management, water resources, forestry, etc.) or other related field
